Finally, my first portrait for 2011. I've recently been into Dragon Age II. Just finished the game, loved it as well. So much in fact, I decided to do a portrait of Garrett Hawke! He's the main protagonist in the game if anyone doesn't know.
I actually used two reference pictures for this portrait. I only managed to find a high res picture with only 3/4 of his face on it and had to combine it with a lower resolution picture for the other 1/4, that part consists most of his hair and part of his face and fur coat collar. Luckily I could use the details from the high res picture to implement it on the other part.
Lots of details in this portrait, which is ironic as he's a CGI fictional character. Those dots on his face, I actually think they are freckles or moles. (The CGI team really went all out). I could even see his skin texture in the picture. Kinda one reason I really wanted to do this portrait as well, as there is such a high detailed reference to use to make it seem like he's real. I really kept the details to a T to the reference picture, especially his hair, blood smear on his face and badass beard/goatee/stubble.
Anyway, he's my first video game fanart (Technically Dastan is a movie fanart)! I always wanted to do some, such as Chris Redfield or Ezio Auditore, but never got to it. So Hawke's my step into the video game fanart world. Will do more soon, probably of Nathan Drake or Cole MacGrath.
