"Peggy Carter: How do you feel?
Captain America/Steve Rogers: .....Taller. "

It's the one and only Captain America! Portrayed by Chris Evans! The First Avenger!

(Entered in [link] #FanZone - Captain America contest)

Fun facts:
So I actually started to draw Captain America way way back, about a month ago. I drew up till his line art, using that movie screenshot with Capt. looking off in a distance. At that time when I was doing it, that picture had already been used for fan arts by other artists, but I still went along with the portrait anyway. Unfortunately, work cut in constantly, and the urge to do other portraits gave way and my portrait of Capt. A went untouched. I actually put Captain America out of my drawing list and he wasn't gonna be finished anytime soon at all as a matter of fact..... Until one day, when I was browsing through magazines at a store, and I saw the most amazing picture of Captain America on the cover of a movie magazine. I was dumbstruck and Capt. A FLEW all the way to the top of my drawing list again. Of course, needless to say, I went with the new photo of him, it looked so good and badass, it was hard to resist. :P

I was lucky in a way, as I saw that photo about a week ago, which gave me enough time to finish my portrait of Capt. A right on 22 July 2011, which is when the movie is out!! I was really excited in getting this portrait done, more so than ever... All I could think about was Captain America, Captain America, Captain America (to the point where I felt like I couldn't function properly day to day as long as his portrait is unfinished!) So finally I finished him today, right on 22 July 2011!

Face/Details:
The easiest part of the portrait to do. Very little areas of it to complete as the helmet takes up most of the portrait. Really took my time doing the details of his eyes. They were obviously very important, as it's the one thing to make you recognize Chris Evans. Also his lips, paid attention to it more than usual. Those features were quite iconic of Chris and so I made sure to get them right.

Helmet/Strap:
Seriously... do not get me started on this. Lots and lots of graphite used. Made sure to get his right side (your left) as dark as possible and also as smooth, as it can tend to look pretty "rough", especially when the graphite can constantly smudge everywhere if I wasn't careful. The helmet strap took me quite a while to do, lots of details on it, made sure I did them. From the stitching, to the holes on his chin strap, to the metal clutches at the side. I really tried to go all out with all the details, even though most of them you can hardly see. Whew, definitely was one mother... to complete. Hah!

One thing about it was I didn't do the dirt on the helmet. I originally planned to do it, but as my portrait progressed on, I decided against it. I kept thinking "What's the point? Why bother dirtying my portrait?" Pun intended. Anyways, the dirt was added in Photoshop in the official picture of Captain America. I have the clean version of the picture as well, so it kinda made sense that I shouldn't bother doing it even though I used the "dirty" & darker version.

Uniform:
Yet another crazy-ass element of the portrait. Took me really long to get this done even though it's such a small area. One specific area took me one hour just to complete. Broke them up into five areas. I really tried to recreate the fabric texture on it, as close as possible to the reference. Also went nuts on trying to get that leather strap to LOOK like leather. All in all, bloody difficult I must say to recreate his uniform, which I didn't mind, seeing as how the costume designers worked their ass off on it for the movie. A little homage to them then!

Background:
Really wanted to recreate the background as well. Followed the reference quite closely. Added all those lines to the background. Nice brushed metal effect and look.

So there you have it! Chris Evans as Captain America! Hopefully I'll be able to watch the movie soon! Earth's Mightiest Heroes!

"Captain America/Steve Rogers: What do you think?
[Peggy shoots the shield]
Peggy Carter: I think it works."
